U.S. technology leader Cybastion is coordinating a three-day visit to Washington for a high-level delegation from the Republic of Gabon, March 8-11, to advance the development of an AI-powered data center in Libreville and boost U.S. investment in expanding power generation capacity.
Led byHE. Philippe Tonangoye, Minister of Universal Access to Water and Energy, the delegation includesHE. Clotaire Kondja, Minister of Oil and Gas, and other senior government officials.
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce's U.S.-Africa Business Center hosted a Ministerial Business Roundtable on March 10, where senior Gabonese officials presented opportunities for U.S. companies to contribute technical expertise, financing solutions and private investments toward the development of an additional 200 MW of power generation capacity.
With an estimated power deficit of 220 MW in the capital region, Cybastion supports the delegation's efforts to secure the additional power capacity needed to maintain AI data center operations.
“Reliable power supply is the foundation of digital resilience,” said Dr. Thierry Wandji, CEO of Cybastion. “A robust power supply is essential to power data centers, digital services and broader private sector growth. »
Sarah Trotman, deputy assistant secretary for Central Africa at the U.S. Department of State, highlighted the importance of strengthening economic ties between the United States and Gabon and boosting U.S. investment in the country during the roundtable.
In addition to meeting with private sector leaders, the delegation met with senior officials from U.S. government agencies to discuss priority areas of U.S. engagement to strengthen Gabon's energy security and digital infrastructure.
The high-level meetings build on Cybastion's ongoing partnership with the Government of Gabon to establish a secure and resilient digital ecosystem anchored by the AI-powered data center, and to strengthen digital workforce development through Africa DigiEmpower, a partnership between Cybastion and Cisco Networking Academy.
