“Artificial intelligence adoption starts with infrastructure.”

Dr. Thierry Wandji, CEO of Cybastion, delivered that message Sept. 9 during a ministerial roundtable on “Building Digital Infrastructure to Enable AI Adoption in Africa” at the eighth Korea-Africa Economic Cooperation Ministerial Conference. The conference was held Sept. 8-11 in Seoul, South Korea.

In his presentation, Dr. Wandji outlined how expanding AI adoption across Africa will require sovereign data centers, reliable energy, high-speed connectivity, cybersecurity and a skilled local workforce.

Dr. Wandji emphasized that responsible AI frameworks are needed to protect national data, strengthen government oversight and reflect local languages and contexts.

He encouraged African governments to establish regulatory sandboxes, adopt data protection frameworks and pursue public-private partnerships to mobilize investment in digital infrastructure.
