Cybastion, American technology leader, will invest $170 million to accelerate Angola's digital sovereignty with historic telecommunications operator Angola Telecom

US technology leader Cybastion and Angolan telecommunications operator Angola Telecom E.P. announced a strategic investment of US$170 million to accelerate Angola's digital infrastructure and cybersecurity resilience to strengthen its digital sovereignty and equip the country's workforce with world-class cybersecurity skills through Cybastion's Digital Fast Track initiative.

The announcement of the agreement was made during a press conference organized by the US government delegation on the sidelines of the Corporate Council on Africa's US-Africa Business Summit in Luanda, Angola.

The Digital Fast Track initiative is a broad digital infrastructure initiative aimed at accelerating Africa's digital transformation and growing U.S. businesses and investments across the continent. The initiative aims to position the southern African country as the digital backbone of the region’s growing digital economy.

This announcement will strengthen a memorandum of understanding signed in early March on the sidelines of Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2025 in Barcelona, Spain.

The first phase of the investment will amount to $25 million to create a national cybersecurity agency and train the next generation of cybersecurity professionals to protect Angola's digital assets, in partnership with the Cisco Networking Academy.

“The agreement aims to strengthen Angola’s digital transformation,” said Dr. Thierry Wandji, CEO of Cybastion. Dr. Wandji also mentioned that the agreement would also bring submarine cables from the capital Luanda to the port of Lobito to improve connectivity.
